Tech giant Hitachi to help Lake Nona beef up transportation network

A new partnership will bring the services of a global tech giant to Orlando’s Lake Nona community.

Japanese conglomerate Hitachi Ltd. and Lake Nona developer Tavistock Development Co. have signed an agreement to analyze the movement of people and items through the 17-square-mile southeast Orlando community.

The agreement, which is indefinite in length, is meant to give guidance on how Tavistock can improve the movement of people and goods through Lake Nona by way of car, autonomous vehicle, air travel and more, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Brand Experience Juan Santos told Orlando Business Journal. “The objective is friction removal — removing things that prevent enjoying or using an environment. The specifics of how will come from the data.”

It is unclear at this point what changes Lake Nona may make, as those projects will be dictated by the results of the analysis. However, Santos said Tavistock expects tangible results to come from the study roughly every six months. “It only counts if we build it.”
