A private Puerto Rican university’s plans to open a Lake Nona campus have taken another step.
Inter American University of Puerto Rico (IUPR) on Feb. 16 bought a roughly 17-acre parcel for $8.56 million from Greenway Park DRI LLC, an entity connected to Tavistock Development Co.
Plans for the land include building 112,334 square feet of space for classroom, office, gymnasium, cafeteria and ancillary uses, as well as a 192-bed student housing development. It will be the first full branch campus for the college outside of Puerto Rico.
The Orange County Commission on Dec. 15 unanimously approved the plans for the project.
The university expects to apply for permits in spring 2021 and then begin construction, a Tavistock spokeswoman previously told Orlando Business Journal. The college plans to have its nursing school open by September 2022.
The project team includes AIP Design Inc. President Ernesto Gonzalez as architect.
